About Me

Who am I?

I am an author, both published and self-published. Social Media for small business is my obsession and my favourite thing to train. In my one-to-one work I help my private clients with their social media and marketing efforts.

My curiosity about the world of marketing and social media began about four years ago with my short foray into the world of network marketing, selling health and weight-loss products. Although recruiting and selling in this way really wasn’t my passion, I learned absolutely loads about social media and content marketing. And so my new passion was born.

I ditched the health products and took tons of online training from some of the marketing greats; Michelle Pescosolido, Ray Higdon, and Brendon Burchard.

All this was during my time at Uni while I was studying Cognitive Neuroscience and writing my book, The Musings of an Elective Orphan. Trying the self-published ‘indie author’ thing gave me my next marketing project. I became obsessed with getting exposure for my writing, both my book and my blog.

I have been both at the top and at the bottom of the Amazon charts. I learned two things from this:

  1. The height that your book gets to in the charts is directly correlated with how hard and how smart you market your work.
  2. The bottom of the charts is where author’s dreams go to die.  I know that feeling, and this is what motivated me to motivate others.

No jargon or wild promises

I’m not one of those fly-by-night internet ‘experts’ that dominate your news feed with promises of overnight-success.  I’m certainly not going to tell you to quit your day job!

I don’t particularly care for the term ‘expert’.  In the social media world, things evolve so quickly that nobody ever knows everything about all the different platforms.  While you are busy swatting up on Instagram, Facebook is  busy changing it’s algorithm while you are not looking.

To say this industry is fast-paced is an understatement.  But I do believe that my passion for it, and the enjoyment I find in learning more everyday, is what makes me good at my work.

My clients don’t come to me because I claim to know everything.  My clients come to me because they like my openness.  When I don’t know the answer to a question, my approach is to figure it out with the client.  And most importantly, we do this in plain English – no crazy jargon, no dazzling you with stats.  Let’s just speak the same language and enjoy the creative process!
